Where does it grow?
Most of the oaks grow in mild areas of Northern hemisphere, in warmer climates they grow in mountain forests. Oak occurs in Europe and a part of Asia including Japan.

Look
Sapwood is lighter than heartwood, and it is also colour-lighter, of yellowish colour, heartwood is of yellow-brown but it can become darker, in fresh condition depending on site it can be light reddish. On radial section there is characteristic silver drawing made by wide lines and its texture is slightly rustic.

Qualities
The compactness of European oak is 720-750 kg/m3 when dried. It is medium-hard wood, very suitable for bending. Mechanical working can be proceeded well and wood can be nicely finished. Its lifetime is very long. Oak is worldwide one of the most favourite kinds of wood, it is ideal material for production of furniture. It can also be used in boat building, car construction, in top interior and exterior carpentry and also as flooring material. It is excellent for wood-carving and statuary and for production of vats.
